Nosifiso Mdutshane(29) from Flagstaff in the small village eXopoza was crowned as the first Princess of Miss Intelligent South Africa a beauty pageant based in Durban which mainly focuses on beauty pageants, fashion shows, crowning models, and modeling awards. Nosifiso describes herself as a person who’s passionate and kind and someone who’s always willing to help those in need.
The UNISA student and businesswoman started modeling in 2019 when she came to Durban for her studies, she then participated in a fashion show and competed in a beauty pageant and that’s when she realized that she has passion, and it is also doable. “I always wanted to model but my background wouldn’t let me because of where I come from, we had no opportunities for those who are dreaming of becoming models,” she recalls.
Nosifiso says to her beauty means being comfortable in your own skin and embracing your imperfections. Through her modeling journey she holds the title of the 1st runner-up in the Miss Intelligent South Africa 2022 Entrepreneur Award and a Public Choice award which she got as the most-voted contestant.
“My purpose is to inspire and empower young women who have no hope of achieving their dreams because of their circumstances and background. With the hope that by looking at me they will have hope and work hard to achieve their goals,” she says.
After having a tough time with her modeling journey, she could not believe her ears when her name was called on a big stage. This has allowed her to go back home and give hope to the hopeless and it also means dreams come through if you trust the process, work hard, and believe in yourself.
When asked if anything is there she would like to see change regarding beauty standards she says: I so wish we can accept people as they are. The happiness you receive from your appearance should not be gained from external validation and people-pleasing and let’s celebrate individual beauty.
