Umzimvubu Municipal Mayor, Cllr Zukiswa Ndevu, recently conducted a site visit to the Butsheni Community Hall, an ongoing project in KwaBhaca set to redefine community gatherings in Ward 27. This multi-million-rand initiative, initiated in the previous financial year (2022/2023), is anticipated to conclude in early 2024, marking a significant step towards community upliftment.
The Butsheni Community Hall, designed to cater to the needs of the local populace, is nearing completion, particularly as it enters the roofing phase. Mayor Ndevu commended the contractor for their efforts and highlighted the municipality’s commitment to providing a dedicated space for community functions, reducing reliance on open fields.
“As we build this hall, we ensure that our communities no longer conduct functions in open fields but within the confines of this facility,” remarked Mayor Cllr Zukiswa Ndevu. She further emphasized plans to fence the hall, ensuring its safety and protection from vandalism. The facility boasts water tanks and toilets, enhancing its convenience for the Butsheni community once open.
Mayor Ndevu expressed satisfaction in the fact that the contractor hails from Umzimvubu Local Municipality, reflecting a positive cycle of community reinvestment. The total cost of the Butsheni Community Hall project amounts to R2.5 million, contributing not only to infrastructure but also local employment.
The contractor has actively engaged the community by employing 12 individuals, including Elido Mudola, who migrated from Mpumalanga Province in search of employment. Mudola, sharing his gratitude, mentioned that working on the hall project has provided him with steady employment after six months of unemployment.
I consider it an honor to contribute to the construction of this hall. Now, I am not only supporting my family but also sharing my skills with the local community. – stated Elido Mudola.
Nosixolise Makaula, the newly elected chief of the Cabazi in Ward 27, expressed her joy at the hall’s construction coinciding with her tenure. She highlighted the significance of having a dedicated space for community meetings, events, and ceremonies.
It’s a great honor. We will no longer have meetings at my home; instead, we’ll gather in the hall where everyone is welcome. – Chief Nosixolise Makaula said.
The Butsheni Community Hall will serve as a versatile venue for various community ceremonies, including funerals and weddings, symbolizing Umzimvubu Local Municipality’s commitment to providing essential facilities for the community’s benefit.
