On Tuesday the 8th of February 2022, Mhlanga youth organisation together with the community of Mhlanga marched to the Winnie Madikizela Mandela local municipality to demand service delivery.
Siphiwe Maziyane who is the co-ordinator of the organisation told Pondoland Times that, it’s been six years since the community has been without water and another pressing issue is the problem of potholes.
Siphiwe says they are demanding water and they want to leave the premises (municipality) with water because the municipality always promises to answer within 7 working days but never delivers. He says as the community of Mhlanga they feel neglected by the municipality.
The Mhlanga Community says they have last received clean water in 2016, also the municipality has been inconsistent when it comes to service delivery. The community is in quest of a permanent solution.
The community says, they believe there has been maladministration of funds because the municipality installed a broken water engine and the installation was allegedly worth FIVE HUNDERAND THOUSAND RAND.
Siphiwe Maziyane says, they have been in talks with the new ward councillor and they cannot hold him accountable since he is new in office.
