The annual Mpondo Reed Dance founded in 2008 will be held on 11 December 2021, 10h00 at Bomvini Komkhulu, Bomvini Village, Lwandlolubomvu Administrative Area, Ntabankulu.

Delivering the key note address will be the Acting Chairperson of the National House of Traditional Leaders Nkosikazi Nomandla Mhlauli. Municipalities from around the Mpondo Kingdom including Mbizana and Ntabankulu are expected to be represented. Executive Mayor Vukile Mhlelembana of Alfred Nzo District Municipality will also be in attendance.

The event also promotes unity in a diversity of cultures. The maidens from the Pedi Kingdom will be joining the maidens from the Mpondo Kingdom to share and exchange their culture and heritage. Johannesburg based specialist and philanthropist Dr Avela Mayekiso will educate the maidens on body development, menstrual hygene, HIV/AIDS and GBV.

Representatives from SAPS, Health and Social Development will also speak on Child Trafficking, child abuse and GBV. Imbumba Foundation will donate food packages to 100 families. Founder of Imbumba Foundation Mr Ruchard Mabaso is expected to deliver a message of support.

Due to covid, attendance is limited and those in attendance will adhere strict covid regulations. The session will be live streamed on Pondo Culture and Heritage pages on facebook to be watched virtually.
