The festive season is a time when most families get together and are in a celebratory mood, this is a time when most people are grateful for the things they have achieved during the cause of the year and some are just grateful for being surrounded by their loved ones. However, this is not the case for orphaned children, this time is normally a reminder to them that they have no one to turn to in times of need.
Taking this into consideration, The Amandela Poverty Alleviation Non-Profit Organisation decided to offer aid to the children who are orphaned. This initiative hosts Christmas festivities for destitute families run by children, the festivity takes place on the 24th of December every year since the initiative was established back in 2015.
Initially, the initiative catered for families around Kwa-Ndela due to the growth in the interest of members wanting to contribute, it grew from 7 members to 36 members currently. The growth in members allowed the NPO to support families in different communities like Redoubt, Sizityaneni, Ludeke, Mazweni Ndela and Mbangweni.
The organisation survives from donations made by the organisation members which has been their greatest challenge because the money received from the members remains constant which makes it difficult for the organisation to expand according to the dreams and visions they have for the destitute children and families around Bizana.
The Amandela Poverty Alleviation Non-profit Organisations have a great challenge when it comes to sponsorship and wishes to receive backing/sponsorship in order to assist in things like buying school uniforms for the families they are currently supporting and also help others gain access to tertiary institutions.
On the 24th of December 2021, The initiative fed 9 families from the communities previously mentioned, with the assistance of the ward councillors who help the organisation with identifying families that require the most help.
