The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has urged taxi operators who have not yet applied for the Taxi Relief Fund (TRF) to do so before the closing date of 31 October 2025. The council emphasized that no extensions will be granted once applications close.

SANTACO defended government’s decision to allocate R408 million from the COVID-19 Relief Fund to the taxi industry, explained its importance in helping the sector recover from the pandemic’s economic toll. To date, more than 73,000 operators have benefited, with over R414 million already distributed.

According to SANTACO spokesperson Mmatshikhidi Phala, over R400 million is available for the current year, with each eligible operator set to receive R7,200 per operating license. This includes scholar transport services, which also qualify for assistance.

Phala stressed that operators should not miss out on this opportunity for financial support. Applicants are required to submit a certified copy of their ID, proof of residence, and a stamped bank confirmation letter.

Applications can be made online through the Department of Transport’s official website on the TRF Facebook page or by calling the dedicated call centre for assistance.

The TRF was introduced as a once-off financial measure by the Department of Transport, specifically designed to cushion taxi operators from losses suffered during COVID-19 resrictions.
