A 37-year-old male was arrested by the O.R. Tambo District Task Team’s (DTT) Crime intelligence after a suspected stolen vehicle was spotted at Payne locality, Mthatha last Saturday 17, August.
A statement issued out by law the office of Eastern Cape’s provincial Commissioner confirmed the incident where a suspect was arrested while in possession of a suspected stolen white Isuzu. The vehicle had been reported stolen from KwaZakhele, Gqeberha in November 2023, the accused was then detained inside Mthatha central police station. Mthatha, being part of the O.R. Tambo district is amongst the worst towns with regards to criminality. With the busy tactical team combating crime through the ‘Operation Shanela’, law breaking citizens feel the heat as a string of arrests are being made daily across the district, with some being robberies in progress, rape, murder and possession of illegal objects.
The district Commissioner, Pumzile Cetyana shared praises for the crime intelligence unit and DTT over a swift hand of justice in locating, detaining the suspect and recovering the stolen vehicle.
The suspect is awaiting his court appearance on Monday 19, this month.
