Mamelodi Sundowns Conclude Season with Perfect Home Record and 15th League Title

Mamelodi Sundowns wrapped up their 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign with a flawless home record after defeating Magesi FC 2–0 at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday evening.

Masandawana not only completed their fourteenth home win of the season but also broke the record for most wins in a 34-game Premiership season, registering 24 victories in just 28 matches. The previous record of 23 wins was held by Manning Rangers (1996/97) and later equalled by Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns in the late 1990s.

Magesi FC, who were on a five-game unbeaten run, could not contain the champions and now sit 12th on the log. They’ll need just one point from their final two fixtures to ensure top-flight safety.

Sundowns started fast, opening the scoring in the 4th minute when Lucas Ribeiro redirected Iqraam Rayners’ shot into the net—his 15th goal of the campaign. Ribeiro added his second in the 22nd minute, curling a stunning effort into the top corner after a clever freekick routine involving Marcelo Allende.

Sundowns continued to threaten, with Tebogo Mokoena and Mosa Lebusa coming close to extending the lead. In the second half, Peter Shalulile attempted a spectacular bicycle kick and later unselfishly squared for Arthur Sales, who missed a clear chance.

Ribeiro’s brace on the night saw him clinch the 2024/25 Betway Premiership Golden Boot with 16 goals, edging past teammate Rayners.

With the domestic league concluded and the trophy lifted, Sundowns now turn their focus to the CAF Champions League final against Egypt’s Pyramids FC, with the first leg set for 24 May at Loftus Versfeld.

Magesi, meanwhile, face Marumo Gallants on the same day as they look to secure their PSL status.
