South Africa’s finest tea and food products will take centre stage this month at two of Asia’s most prestigious events — the Hong Kong International Tea Fair and the Hong Kong Food Expo — both organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). These platforms are set to attract global buyers, industry leaders, and food enthusiasts from around the world.
The Tea Fair, running from 14–16 August 2025, will offer a sensory journey for trade visitors and the public through tea tastings, tea art performances, competitions, and workshops. Exhibitors from leading tea-producing regions including China, India, Japan, Sri Lanka, and South Africa will present their finest brews alongside delicate tea ware. The event also features Click2Match, an AI-powered business matching platform connecting international buyers and sellers.
The Hong Kong Food Expo, scheduled for 14–18 August 2025, is Asia’s leading trade and consumer food event. Known for its diversity, the expo covers premium and everyday food products, innovative culinary trends like alternative proteins and 3D food printing, and cutting-edge packaging solutions. It attracts key decision-makers from retail, wholesale, import/export, gastronomy, and hospitality.
Answering President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call for South Africa’s diplomatic missions to champion economic diplomacy, the South African Consulate in Hong Kong will lead a strong promotional drive. Four tea companies will represent the country:
- Skywoo (Hong Kong-based importer of Rooibos tea)
- Rooibos Pty Ltd (Shanghai)
- Magwa Estate Tea (Lambase, Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape)
- Rooibos Laager
Alongside the teas, South African beef, lamb, biltong, and canned goods will be presented, offering a taste of the nation’s diverse culinary landscape.

The Consulate will host presentations spotlighting South Africa’s food culture, market potential, and export opportunities. Tea brand representatives will share insights into the heritage and health benefits of South African teas, while highlighting their role in global trade.
Both events will not only showcase South African excellence in tea and food production but also provide invaluable networking opportunities, foster trade partnerships, and open doors to new global markets.
