In a groundbreaking achievement, South African pop sensation Tyla has earned an impressive 8 nominations for the 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMA). The ceremony is set to take place on December 12 in Los Angeles.
Tyla’s nominations span six categories, including Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Female Artist, and Top Afrobeats Artist. Her self-titled debut album is also up for Top R&B Album, while her tracks “Water,” “Jump,” “Truth or Dare” are nominated for Top R&B Song and Top Afrobeats Song.
This achievement marks Tyla’s first BBMA nomination, and she shares the same number of nods as international heavyweights Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone, and Teddy Swims. Notably, Tyla surpassed the number of nominations received by prominent artists such as Bad Bunny, Jung Kook, and SZA.
Tyla’s success at the BBMA nominations follows a remarkable year, with wins at top music ceremonies, including the 2024 Grammys, BET Awards, MTV EMA Awards, MTV VMA, and SAMAs.
The Joburg-born singer also celebrated her debut LP being among the top 10 streamed female albums on Spotify in 2024, according to Chart Data on X. Tyla expressed her gratitude to her fans, known as “Tygerzzzz,” on X.
