Honourable Sixolise Gcilishe conducted an oversight visit at the Gugulethu SASSA offices in Cape Town, uncovering serious service delivery and management concerns.

During the visit, Gcilishe’s first encounter was with an elderly woman suffering from severe back pain, lying on the floor without any help from officials. The EFF immediately stepped in to assist her, highlighting the urgent need for improved care and responsiveness to vulnerable beneficiaries.

The oversight revealed that the office is battling with insufficient space to cater to the high volume of SASSA beneficiaries and applicants who arrive daily. The overcrowded conditions create discomfort for those waiting for services and raise questions about the adequacy of the facility to meet community needs.

Another issue raised was the lack of gender balance in the office’s leadership structure. Out of ten managers, only two are women, while eight are men, a disparity that the EFF says requires urgent attention to ensure fair representation in decision-making roles.
