The Mzimvubu Local Municipality, in partnership with Alfred Nzo District Municipality, launched its 2025/26 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) engagement today at Sirhoqobeni Community Hall. The meeting aimed to empower residents with information and gather input to shape future municipal priorities.
WHAT HAPPENED
The community meeting formed part of Mzimvubu Municipality’s week-long IDP outreach across all wards. The session focused on presenting key development priorities, including housing projects, road access, water schemes, sanitation, electricity, and agricultural initiatives.
Residents actively participated, sharing concerns and suggestions with municipal officials. Councillors from both Alfred Nzo District and Mzimvubu Local Municipality led the discussions, ensuring that every voice was heard.
One participant said, “It’s good to see the municipality listening to our needs — we want real progress in our villages.”
OFFICIAL RESPONSE
Municipal leaders emphasized that the IDP process promotes transparency, accountability, and collaboration between the municipality and citizens.
Speaking at the event, an official from Mzimvubu Municipality noted, “Our goal is to build trust and ensure communities are part of the planning process. We are committed to turning these discussions into tangible outcomes.”
The municipalities reiterated their commitment to addressing infrastructure backlogs and improving essential services.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
The initiative is expected to strengthen public confidence and ensure development aligns with community priorities. By involving residents early in the process, officials hope to prevent service delivery delays and enhance cooperation between local government and citizens.
The IDP sessions will continue throughout the week across all wards in the Mzimvubu municipal area, giving residents in remote areas the same opportunity to participate.
