Sinenkani FC has lodged an appeal with the Arbitration Committee of the South African Football Association (SAFA) after the SAFA Eastern Cape (EC) dismissed their complaint regarding a match commissioner’s conflict of interest.
The controversy surrounds a match between Sinenkani FC and FC Ravens on January 25, 2025, where match commissioner Thenjana “Faku” Mbangatha was revealed to be the father of an FC Ravens player.
“We believe in justice and fairness in football, and we will fight at every front to ensure that,” said a statement from Sinenkani FC.
However, not all fans are supportive of the club’s decision to appeal. On Facebook, Swenka Nonguzela commented, “Let it slide… this money that is being used for these complaints and appeals can be used on something else that will benefit the team in a big and positive way.”
Another fan, Bhengu Gadula, who supports FC Ravens, echoed similar sentiments, saying, “Just stop fighting and fighting guys and play football when the time is right.”
Sinenkani FC has appointed a legal team to represent them at a disciplinary committee (DC) hearing scheduled for Sunday, February 16, in East London.
