JOHANNESBURG: Floyd Shivhambu, former EFF deputy president, appointed MKP national organiser, just a week after shocking exit to join MKP, as announced at MKP’s Johannesburg press conference on August 22.
Floyd Shivhambu, a founding member and former deputy president of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has been officially named UMkhonto Wesizwe Party’s (MKP) national organiser, this happened Thursday, 22 August during a press conference held by MKP in Johannesburg. Shivhambu made a shocking exit to join the MKP on 15, August. This unexpected move marked a significant shift in South African politics, Shivhambu cited seeking a “new political home” and a “fresh start” as reasons for his departure. His leadership and sharp political instincts will undoubtedly be an asset to the MKP, as a key figure in the EFF, Shivhambu’s departure will likely have far-reaching implications for the party and the political landscape. Analysts are eagerly watching his next moves and the impact on the MKP.
Shivhambu disputed the claims of targeted sabotage of his former party and called the MKP as a party of unity that symbolises the theme of this country.
“I think all of us, all the progressive forces should unite and build this movement. There’s no dictatorship here, there’s political discussions in all the times that we’ve got interactive zones. Zuma has the patience to have political and ideological discussions to console people about how to move forward, he does not stand subjectively and he has said that let’s unite all the progressive forces so that we can build a solid movement that will take us forward. Otherwise, the other things that are said are not worth responding to. We are going to go to the ground, let us all coexist all of us, and then let’s listen to each other. Let’s build the MKP as a party which is going to take over the government of South Africa,” said Shivhambu.
John Hlophe, the MKP’s deputy president denied claims that Shivhambu’s move has been a ploy against EFF, he said that the new national organiser was solely chosen based on merit.
“Comrade Floyd has been deployed, and indeed, all our comrades are being deployed to various structures based on merit. Let me be clear when I say no one is being targeted or destroyed. Our deployments are not intended to harm individuals or the EFF as a party. We are focused on implementing our own political programs as a party, independent of the EFF’s stance on any issue. I must emphasize that Comrade Floyd is an exceptionally experienced politician. As I mentioned last night, and I reiterate, he is remarkably sharp, like a razor. Undoubtedly, he will play a vital role in the party’s future endeavours. I have addressed this matter,” assured Hlophe.
Finally, the party president, Jacob Zuma welcomed the new member and national organiser Shivhambu to the party, he also urged the public to stay sharp of those that seek to divide black people.
“We have been divided by the British and Afrikaaners, our eyes have been opened and we must act to close the gap created by our enemies,” stressed Zuma.
