SASSA CEO Themba Matlou has reassured North West residents of the agency’s commitment to integrity, transparency, and improved service delivery during a recent media engagement.

Matlou revealed that eight fraud cases had been recorded in the province, with three successfully closed and the remainder still under investigation.

“We work closely with SAPS and the Hawks. Integrity, transparency, and accountability are at our core, not only in paying grants but in curbing fraud,” he said.

He stressed that SASSA does not deduct money from beneficiaries without consent and does not partner with any entities that do. Through its Customer Care model, the agency collaborates with municipalities and traditional leaders to provide services closer to communities.

Clarifying eligibility rules, Matlou stated that only documented and qualifying individuals can receive social grants.

“Illegal immigrants are not eligible. Our system is linked with Home Affairs, and once a death certificate is issued, the grant stops automatically,” he explained.

The CEO also acknowledged the role of the media in keeping citizens informed.

“We don’t take the media’s role for granted. Help us keep the nation informed, together we empower,” Matlou said.
