SASSA urges disability grant applicants to use its online platform to book medical assessments, offering a quicker, easier alternative to in-person visits. This digital option is designed to ease the application process, reduce transport costs, and eliminate long queues at SASSA offices.
The initiative aims to make services more accessible without replacing in-person support. Applicants without internet access are still welcome to visit local SASSA offices to make their bookings.
Once the medical assessment is completed, applicants can proceed with their grant applications online. All supporting documents must be certified, valid within six months, and accurately reflect the applicant’s details before being uploaded.
SASSA has issued a warning to applicants to protect their personal information and avoid assistance from strangers to prevent scams. Those who struggle with the online system are advised to seek help directly from SASSA offices.
To qualify for the disability grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee living in South Africa
- Be aged between 18 and 59
- Undergo a medical assessment confirming the disability
- Provide a referral form from a medical facility
- Meet the means test requirements
- Not be in a state-funded institution
- Not receive another social grant for themselves
- Submit a valid 13-digit barcoded ID or approved alternative identification
SASSA continues to work toward improving service delivery and making the application process more efficient and secure.
