South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) beneficiaries using SASSA Gold Cards can continue to access their social grant payments beyond 31 May 2025 without the need for immediate card replacement, Postbank has announced.

This clarification comes as part of Postbank’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted access to social grant funds for millions of South Africans. The gold cards, widely used by social grant recipients across the country, will remain fully operational at ATMs and retailers even after the previously communicated expiry period.

Postbank emphasized that the SASSA Gold Cards are still valid and that beneficiaries should not be concerned about their ability to access funds. The institution has been working with the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) and Payments Association of South Africa (PASA) to ensure that systems continue to recognize and accept the cards beyond the original May 2025 timeframe.

Beneficiaries are encouraged to remain vigilant against misinformation and fraud. Official updates regarding any future changes to card usage or replacement procedures will be communicated directly through SASSA and Postbank channels.

Postbank also reassured the public that preparations are underway for a smooth transition to alternative payment solutions, but emphasized that there is currently no need for grant recipients to change or replace their SASSA Gold Cards.

This update is expected to ease concerns among millions of grant recipients who rely on consistent and accessible payment systems for their monthly support.
