SASSA Dismisses Fake Messages About May Grant Cancellations Amid SRD Payment Status Checks

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced that Disability Grant payments for May 2025 will be made on Wednesday, 7 May. This follows the standard practice of disbursing older persons’ grants first, followed by disability and child support grants.

Eligible beneficiaries can collect their funds through ATMs, retail outlets like Shoprite and Pick n Pay, or through direct bank deposits, depending on the method selected during the application process.

How to Check Your SASSA Disability Grant Status

To avoid confusion and unnecessary trips to payout points, SASSA encourages recipients to check their status online using the SRD Status Check portal at https://srd.sassa.gov.za.

You will need your South African ID number and the cellphone number used during registration. Status updates include approval, payment date, and bank processing info.

What to Do If You Haven’t Been Paid

If your payment is delayed, here are three steps you can take:

  1. Visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID and application reference.
  2. Call the SASSA toll-free helpline at 0800 60 10 11.
  3. Check your banking details on the SRD portal to ensure they are correct.

Grant Amounts for May 2025

As of May 2025, the Disability Grant remains at R2,310 per month, with no announced increase. SASSA has not confirmed any inflation-based adjustments for mid-year yet.

Applicants awaiting a response on a pending Disability Grant are advised to monitor the portal regularly, as application backlogs are still being processed.
