Energy giant Sasol has confirmed the official end of its long-standing sponsorship agreement with the South African Football Association (SAFA), which included support for the senior women’s national team, Banyana Banyana, and the Sasol League. The agreement expired on 30 June 2025 after 16 years of partnership.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Sasol expressed pride in its contribution to women’s football in South Africa, saying the partnership helped grow the sport from grassroots level to the international stage. “We have helped enable pathways for young women footballers… and remain proud of the role we played in the visibility and development of the game,” the company said.

While Sasol awaits feedback from SAFA regarding terms for a potential renewal, it has confirmed that it no longer holds the rights to associate with Banyana Banyana or the Sasol League as of 1 July 2025.

Sasol also reaffirmed its commitment to the empowerment and inclusion of women in sport, stating it continues to value the important role women’s sport plays in driving transformation in South Africa.

The announcement marks a significant moment in South African football, as Banyana Banyana’s rise on the global stage over the past decade has often been linked to the stability and support provided through Sasol’s backing.
