In a significant step towards enhancing community safety and bolstering the effectiveness of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Nomthetheleli Mene has welcomed the promotion of 31 officers to management positions.

This notable achievement not only recognizes the exceptional dedication and expertise of these officers but also underscores the SAPS’s unwavering commitment to serving and protecting our communities with diligence.

The 31 promoted posts include the appointment of Maj Gen Joseph Wright as the Buffalo City Metro District Commissioner, effective from May 1, 2024. With over 32 years of operational experience, Maj Gen Wright brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role. His impressive qualifications include a National Diploma in Policing, a Diploma in Law (Paralegal), a BTech in Policing, a Postgraduate Diploma in Labour Law, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law and Industry IR 4.0 (4th Industrial Revolution).

Additionally, Lt Gen Mene conferred ranks on 31 station commanders, promoting them from Captain to Colonel. These appointed station commanders assumed their official duties at their respective police stations on May 10, 2024.

In congratulating the appointees, Lt Gen Mene emphasized the critical role they will play in upholding the values of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.

“Your promotions come with a weighty responsibility to lead by example, inspire your peers, and foster trust and collaboration with the communities you serve. Let us take Operation Shanela to the communities and make our presence felt. Your promotion marks a significant milestone in your career path, so as you assume your new roles, I urge you to uphold the Code of Conduct, excel in whatever you do, and always ensure that your communities are policed and served,” added Lt Gen Mene.
