The South African Football Association (SAFA) has reaffirmed its commitment to the core business of football, despite recent court proceedings involving its president, Dr. Danny Jordaan, and other officials.
On Friday, February 7, 2025, Dr. Jordaan, SAFA’s Chief Financial Officer Gronie Hluyo, and Grit Communications Director Trevor Neethling appeared briefly at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court. However, the matter was postponed to August 15, 2025, after the State withdrew three charges related to alleged payments to Dr. Jordaan.
SAFA has welcomed the withdrawal of the charges, citing errors on the part of the State. The Association has assured that it will continue to observe the court process while maintaining its focus on football development and competitions.
Meanwhile, SAFA’s national teams and clubs are gearing up for various international tournaments. The U15 Girls and U15 Boys teams are preparing for the CAF African Schools Championships, while the U17 Boys team is set to compete in the CAF Youth Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Banyana Banyana, the national women’s team, is defending its CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in July, and Bafana Bafana, the national men’s team, is preparing for its 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin.
SAFA has also congratulated five officials selected to attend the regional referee instructors seminar organized by FIFA in Ethiopia. Additionally, the Association has expressed its support for South African football clubs competing internationally, including Orlando Pirates FC, Mamelodi Sundowns FC, and Stellenbosch FC.
