Mzukisi Sosibo, 35, from Bizana (Nyanisweni) grew up playing football and he was always involved in activities that kept him physically fit, he says when he moved to Mthatha he suddenly stopped playing football and engaging in activities that kept him in good shape. It was after his ex-wife would tease that he had picked up weight, that he started running. he says the aim was just to lose weight but he got introduced to a running club by a friend.
He Joined a running club called Open Serve Atlethic marathon powered by Telkom, back in 2013. He had his first marathon when he ran in the Buffs Marathon in East London in 2019, scoring 4 hours 37 minutes in a 42km marathon.
Mzukisi says when he started running he qualified for the Two Oceans annual marathon in Cape Town and he Also qualified to run in the comrades Marathon, which he says is every runner’s dream to be part of these two marathons.
The athlete says in 2020 he had improved his running capabilities as he ran the same 42km marathon in 3 hours 45 minutes.
Mzukisi says running has helped him Cope with his divorce, he could not carry the pain of divorce all by himself, he had running as his escape and safe space from the pain. he believes that running played a huge role in easing the pain he was going through.
On Sunday the 20th, he took part in the Buffs Marathon which was dedicated to all those who lost their loved ones to Covid-19, the athlete says he took part in this inciative to be one with those who are not coping because of the loss they suffered Because of Covid-19.
He advises people to take part in activities that are outside their daily routines, he says this could be joining a book club or fishing because the current economic state of the country is depressing.
