The Port St Johns Local Municipality, led by Mayor CS Mazuza, has officially handed over contractors for the upgrading of the Qambatha and Mthambalala Access Roads in wards 11 and 12 in Port St Johns. The project is aimed at improving road infrastructure while also creating vital employment opportunities for residents.
The municipality explained that the initiative is designed not only to strengthen transport links but also to open doors for young people and Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs). These businesses will have the chance to grow and move from smaller-scale operations to larger roles in the local economy. Accommodation providers are also expected to benefit from the influx of workers involved in the construction phase, further boosting community businesses.
At the event, Council Speaker SE Sicoto stressed the importance of safeguarding the contractor’s equipment. He called on stakeholders and residents to remain alert and ensure that machinery and tools are well-protected throughout the duration of the works.
