South Africa mourns the death of Lumko ‘Johnson’ Leqele, after the family announced his death on Wednesday evening, 14 September 2022. The statement released stated that his passing was followed after a short hospitalization.
Lumko was famously known for their enthusiastic character that brought light in others especially their friends and those close to them. They grew in their entertainment career as they natured their interests in media at large leading them to big shows and radio.
“Lumko first entered the public realm as a young teenager on the popular SABC 1 YOTV platform. They went on to nature a career in television broadcast, radio production and media at large. In his own words, Lumko was an “Accomplished TV & Radio Super Producer, Actor, Writer and Big deal in Most Spaces” stated the media report.
The statement circulated on all social media platforms leaving so many South Africans heartbroken, shocked and some left reminiscing the good times they shared with Lumko.
“Farewell, my friend. I’m gonna miss our debates. I’m gonna miss you cheering me on. I’m gonna miss you calling me by my full name, I’m gonna miss your fabulous soul. It’s just me and Samora Mangesi now” tweeted Kgopolo ‘Phil’Mphela.
“Lumko Johnson. YoTV days were awesome, but my highlight was when they played MJ on Mzansi Magic’s Inkaba alongside Dr. John Kani, Dumisani Mbebe, Nompilo Gwala & Weza Solange. A proud fearless King. Rest in Peace Leqele” tweeted Bekithemba Zulu.
The family has kindly asked the public to refer to Lumko as ‘They/Them as these were the pronouns they were referred to.
“Details on memorial and funeral arrangements will be shared by the family in due course. The family asks that the public and media respect their privacy as they deal with this difficult loss” said the report.
