The Raymond Mhlaba Municipality launched a large clean-up campaign in Adelaide on 18 November 2025. The operation involved municipal officials, community groups, and district partners. Teams moved through several hotspots to tackle waste, restore order, and promote environmental health.
What Happened?
The clean-up formed part of an ongoing municipal program aimed at reducing pollution and restoring public pride across Adelaide.
The campaign included officials from RMM, the Amathole District Municipality, EPWP, CWP teams, and residents.
Portfolio Head for Finance, Councilor Sinethemba Mjakuca, and Ward Councillor Masixole Tukani led the effort.
Teams worked across:
- Lingelethu Location
- Adelaide Taxi Rank
- Old Cemeteries behind Vulindlela Primary School
The initiative focused on clearing illegal dumping, removing waste piles, and improving the appearance of key public areas.
A resident assisting with the clean-up said,
“We want our children to grow up in a cleaner and safer environment.”
Official Response
Municipal leaders said the campaign promotes public health and environmental responsibility.
They also stressed that cleaning alone is not enough.
Awareness programs will follow to educate households about proper waste management.
Councilor Mjakuca urged residents to support the campaign:
“Keeping Adelaide clean requires all of us. We must protect our environment together.”
Officials say clean-up drives will continue in surrounding wards.
Community Impact
The clean-up received strong community support. Local businesses and youth volunteers joined teams to restore heavily polluted areas.
Many residents believe regular clean-ups will discourage illegal dumping and improve safety.
In addition, teachers at Vulindlela Primary School welcomed the initiative, noting that cleared areas near the school reduce hazards for learners.
