The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced a delay in the handover of the Motsepe Foundation Championship Cup, citing unresolved matters currently under review by the League’s Prosecutor and disciplinary bodies.
Traditionally, the National Soccer League (NSL) presents the trophy to the team finishing top of the division standings immediately after the season’s final match. However, the League has opted to postpone the ceremony, as certain issues raised by Member Clubs are still under investigation and may potentially influence the final table.
“It is not clear to the NSL how, and to what extent, these matters may impact the final standings in the division,” the statement reads.
The League has assured clubs that it is committed to resolving these issues with urgency and in line with the NSL Handbook. The PSL also affirmed that Member Clubs will be kept informed as the matters progress toward resolution.
“The NSL will use its best endeavours… to ensure these matters are finalised as expeditiously as possible,” the League concluded.
No further details were provided on the nature of the disputes or the clubs involved.
