The chairman of the Premier Soccer League (PSL), Dr Irvin Khoza, has announced the international gambling company Betway as the new sponsor of South Africa’s top league.

Briefing the media on Wednesday in Parktown, Dr Khoza revealed that Betway has signed a three-year deal worth R900 million with the PSL.

“We now have the Betway Premiership as the sponsorship of the league. Thank you very much, DStv, for your sponsorship as the Premiership sponsor,” said Dr. Khoza.

The Premiership will be renamed from the DStv Premiership to the Betway Premiership after DStv withdrew as the sponsor due to financial difficulties. However, the broadcaster will continue as the main broadcaster for the 2024–25 season.

The league is scheduled to kick off on August 3, 2024, with fixtures to be announced in the afternoon.

Dr Khoza highlighted other competitions (CAF and AFL) as the reason for the delay in confirming the Premiership start and fixture details, stating that they must evaluate them to avoid scheduling clashes.

The prize money for the league under the new sponsorship remains unknown. However, Dr Khoza assured that all financial-related information will be released once everything is finalised.

When asked about the league’s prize money, he responded, “Watch this space. I can’t discuss that until the fixtures are released.”
