Giving back to the community by at least having 2 orphanage homes is what Pretty wants to achieve one day.
Tsolo-born Miss Empower Eastern Cape founder Pretty Mqolweni initiated the women empowerment programme in 2021 intending to keep young girls off the streets intending to reduce teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, and bullying in schools.
The pageant goal is to be a powerhouse that works to celebrate women in all aspects, make them realise their power, and use to bring change in our society. – she explains.
Mqolweni advocates for liberating the youth from societal stereotypes, fighting social ills, and regenerating morals.
The annual pageant which hosts all towns around the province recently crowned a contestant from Flagstaff Emihle Beje as their 2023 Queen who also shared her advocacy of prioritising education with Pondoland Times in August 2023.
Giving back to the community as a pageantry we host annual empowerment workshops with young girls from different parts of Eastern Cape sharing challenges faced by their communities and how we can solve issues. – she says.
“Having orphanage homes that we can create long-term working relationships and growing as a brand to a point where each town from our province gets a representative to inspire others from their communities that you don’t need to migrate to bigger cities to be part of initiatives is our future goal,” she concludes.
