South African president Cyril Ramaphosa has announced significant changes within his cabinet to enhance the effectiveness of the national executive. The reshuffle, effective immediately, underscores the President’s commitment to fostering accountability and ensuring robust governance.
In a key appointment, Ms. Mmamoloko Tryphosa Kubayi has transitioned from her role as Minister of Human Settlements to become the new Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development. Her extensive experience in human settlements is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the justice portfolio.
Meanwhile, Ms. Thembi Nkadimeng, who previously headed the Justice department, has taken over as Minister of Human Settlements. Her leadership is anticipated to be pivotal in addressing the pressing housing challenges faced by many South Africans.
Adding to the restructuring, Ms. Phumzile Mgcina has been appointed as the Deputy Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, moving from her previous position as Deputy Minister of Labour and Employment. Her new role signifies an acknowledgment of the importance of the mining sector in the country’s economic landscape.
Additionally, Ms. Judith Nemadzinga-Tshabalala steps in as the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour, transitioning from her role as Deputy Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources. Her expertise will be crucial as the government seeks to tackle unemployment and promote labour rights.
