A viral video showing a young girl living in poor conditions in Zinyoka, Gqeberha, has prompted swift action from Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane. In response, the provincial government has mobilised resources to construct a Temporary Residential Unit (TRU) for the girl.

The TRU, set to be completed tomorrow, will be fully furnished to provide immediate relief and dignity. While this is a short-term measure, the local municipality has confirmed that work is underway to secure a permanent housing solution.

Premier Mabuyane thanked community members who stepped in to shelter and support the girl before government intervention. He said the case was a reminder of the importance of collective action and pledged that the province will continue working to improve living conditions for vulnerable citizens.

This is about ensuring no one is left behind,” he said, adding that government remains committed to making real changes in the daily lives of Eastern Cape residents.

The intervention has been widely welcomed as an example of responsive leadership and partnership between communities and government.
