The Port St Johns Local Municipality, in partnership with the Automotive Industry Development Centre Eastern Cape (AIDC-EC), recently held a workshop under the banner of the Automotive Aftermarket Support Programme. The initiative was designed to assist local automotive mechanics by outlining the steps required to qualify for government funding.
Addressing participants, Mr. Fololo from AIDC stressed that business registration is a key requirement for accessing financial assistance. Without proper registration, businesses cannot be considered for government support programmes.
“Registration ensures that businesses are compliant with regulations and guidelines, which is critical for eligibility,” he said. “It is the first step towards unlocking the funding opportunities available for small enterprises.”
The workshop focused on educating local entrepreneurs in the automotive sector about the importance of compliance, while also providing practical information on how to navigate application processes. Organisers said the aim was to empower mechanics with knowledge that could help them grow sustainable businesses and create jobs in their communities.
By bringing together government support structures and local service providers, the collaboration between Port St Johns Municipality and Automotive Industry Development Centre Eastern Cape is seen as a proactive step towards strengthening small businesses in the region. Officials emphasised that supporting mechanics and other small-scale operators not only boosts the local economy but also contributes to broader skills development in the province.
