Port St Johns Municipality has welcomed 56 new contract workers to help maintain cleanliness across the town and its beaches. The employees, drawn from various wards, join the existing team of 91 workers tasked with upholding hygiene standards across Port St Johns and its coastal villages.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the municipality, led by Mayor CS Mazuza and Council Speaker S. Sicotho, and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment. It forms part of a broader strategy to enhance tourism appeal and attract investment to the region.

Addressing the new recruits, Mayor Mazuza underscored the value of discipline and dedication in their daily duties. She stated that a clean and welcoming environment is key to drawing both tourists and investors, which in turn benefits the local economy.

Council Speaker Sicotho extended his gratitude to the department and the municipality for their inclusive approach. He praised the decision to employ youth from villages located inland and far from the coast, noting that the programme not only provides job opportunities but also supports social and economic development in remote areas.

The partnership is seen as a vital step in preserving the natural beauty of Port St Johns while fostering a sense of community responsibility and pride among residents.
