In a media statement, the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality announced the closure of the Port Shepstone Taxi rank to allow development.
On Wednesday Members of the public were formally informed through a media statement by the Ray Nkonyeni municipality that from Friday the 21st informal traders will be temporarily moving from the Port Shepstone taxi rank and from Saturday the 22nd 2022 the Port Shepstone taxi rank will be temporally closed to allow development.
The municipality conveyed that they have taken measures that will allow informal traders to continue to trade and the temporary rank has been clearly demarcated indicating where taxis are ought to load and off-load commuters.
The refurbishment of the rank is estimated to cost R550 million, promising to create employment opportunities during and after construction, the overall construction is estimated to take a period of 18 months.
The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality pleaded with the public to understand during this time as this development will change the economic hub of the South Coast.
