Police in OR Tambo seized 3 illegal guns and arrested 3 suspects during firearm crackdown operations Qumbu, under Kumkani Mhlontlo Municipality.
In the first incident, members of the Tactical Response Team acting on intelligence confronted a male suspect in the Qumbu CBD. A search led to the discovery of a 9mm Glock pistol with eighteen live rounds. Police confirmed the weapon, with an intact serial number, had been registered to a deceased person.
Later on, the OR Tambo District Task Team based in Mthatha arrested a 33-year-old man during a roadblock near Sulenkama junction. Officers found a .38 revolver with its serial number removed. The firearm was not loaded.
In a separate operation, police arrested a 38-year-old man at Mafusini locality. He was found with a 9mm pistol and sixteen live rounds.
All three suspects are expected to appear in the Qumbu Magistrate’s Court soon. They face charges related to the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
Police have reiterated their commitment to removing illegal weapons from communities and urged the public to report suspicious activity to help combat gun-related crimes in the region.
