A police officer was shot and killed in a shootout incident that happened in a marketplace at Engcobo. According to the report made by the South African Police Service spokesperson in Eastern Cape, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana the victim together with colleagues was attending a break-in that was reported.
Kinana said, “Police arrived at the crime scene and met a guy who was wearing a security guard uniform, the suspect directed the police officer to enter inside and later shot and killed him.”
When the other police officers were approaching the scene of the incident, they encountered bullets being fired against them. Two suspects died on the crime scene and a 35 year old police was injured.
One suspect is arrested while the other two are still on the run. A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened.
