Quick action by Tsolo police led to the arrest of three men suspected of stock theft at Lotana road, in Tsolo under the Kumkani Mhlontlo Local Municipality.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a grey VW Polo Vivo hatchback on Lotana Road, heading toward the Tsolo N2 junction. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered three sheep. The occupants, aged between 23 and 48, failed to produce proof of ownership or any documentation related to the livestock.
All three men were arrested on the spot and charged with possession of suspected stolen livestock.
Brigadier Vukile Ntuli, the acting OR Tambo District Commissioner, commended the officers involved, praising their swift and effective response.
“The police remain committed to tackling stock theft head-on. This kind of crime has significant economic and social impacts, particularly in rural communities,” said Ntuli.
The recovered sheep have been secured at the Tsolo Municipality stock pound while efforts continue to trace the rightful owner.
Authorities have urged members of the public to report suspicious activity and continue assisting in the fight against rural crime.
