A 38- YEAR- OLD MOUNT ALYIFF MAGISTRATE SHOT DEAD

A Mount Ayliff magistrate in the Eastern Cape was shot on Saturday night in Mbizana while traveling with her husband and kids. Both the 38-year-old woman’s husband and their 13-year-old kid were shot, and both are currently receiving medical attention at the hospital.

A 10-year-old kid, who was also in the family vehicle when gunmen in a white Ford Ranger double cab bakkie shot at it, escaped unharmed. The magistrate’s family has not yet been informed of the event, according to the police, who have yet to release her identity. Eastern Cape police commissioner in interim, Major-General Thandiswa Kupiso, had set up a task team of investigators to track and trace the culprits within 72 hours after the incident.

According to Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana, a spokesperson for the police, the magistrate was driving from a nearby community after leaving her mother off at home, according to the preliminary inquiry.

A white Ford Ranger double cab came as they approached Nomlacu neighborhood, close to Faith Mission Church, and appeared to overtake their vehicle. Then, unidentified passengers started firing at the car. – Kinana declared.

The wife, who was thought to be a Mt Ayliff judge, allegedly died as a result of upper body bullet wounds, while the husband had critical lower and upper body gunshot wounds. Another victim was a 13-year-old son who was hurt.

According to Kinana, the husband, who was driving the family vehicle at the time of the shooting, allegedly did not pull over but instead drove to a nearby hospital following the shooting. It is said the the motive behind is yet to be investigated.
