On November 15, the Eastern Cape office of the provincial commissioner issued a media statement about the 72 hour implementation of police search following the fatal shooting that took place in Gqeberha.

Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata, the Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner implemented the 72 hour activation plan following the fatal shooting of two men and the injury of 3 in Malabar Extension 6 during the early hours of the morning,  15th November.

It is alleged that the incident took place in the early hours into the day. At about 00:46, a group of males broke down the door at a house in Calvert Street looking for the owner’s son. Fortunately, four occupants who were inside the house managed to escape while unfortunately, 5 victims were rounded up and shot in the kitchen. Two males, identified as Ruben Stuurman (28) and Yano Richards ( 24) sustained multiple gun wounds and died on scene while the other 3 aged between 20 – 26 years, sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.

The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation and the suspects remain unknown at the moment.

Maj Gen Ncata has urged the team of investigators to track and trace the perpetrators as soon as possible.
