Police launch a manhunt for suspect who raped an elderly woman in Lusikisiki.

Lusikisiki police are urgently searching for a suspect after a 99-year-old woman was raped in Manqondweni, Gqubeni A/A, early Tuesday morning.

According to police, the horrifying incident occurred at around 01:20 on 3 June 2025. The elderly woman was asleep alone in her home when an unknown man entered through an unlocked door. The attacker reportedly shone a bright light into her eyes before sexually assaulting her and fleeing the scene.

Police are calling on the public to assist with any information that may lead to the arrest and prosecution of the suspect. Authorities have not yet released a description of the attacker.

“This is a deeply disturbing crime against one of the most vulnerable members of our society,” said Colonel Siyabulela Kufa, Commander of Lusikisiki Detectives. “We urge anyone with knowledge of the incident or the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward.”

Police have assured the community that all information will be treated in the strictest confidence. The investigation continues.
