The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training, Mr Tebogo Letsie, raised deep concern about a City Press article published on 6 December 2025. The report claims he benefited from an R82 million security tender at the University of South Africa (Unisa). He strongly denied the allegation and said the article misleads the public.
He added that the report links him to a matter with no factual basis.
Letsie Says He Was Not Contacted for Comment
Mr Letsie criticised the journalist for naming him without asking for his response. He said the article states that Unisa and the Minister of Higher Education were contacted. However, he received no such call or request.
He described the omission as troubling and said it violates basic standards of fairness. As a result, he questioned the intention behind linking his name to the tender. He said the attempt may aim to damage his credibility as Chairperson.
Legal Action Under Consideration
Mr Letsie said he will seek legal guidance on the matter. He confirmed that he plans to take appropriate action against City Press for publishing allegations he believes are harmful and unfounded.
