In a turn of events that surprised many, Emihle Chitha, a promising contender in the recent pageant, found herself facing financial challenges that ultimately led to her withdrawal from the competition. In an exclusive interview, she opens up about the difficulties she encountered and the valuable lessons she gained from the experience.
Emihle had previously hinted at financial struggles during her initial interview, revealing that the primary reason for her withdrawal was the high cost of bus tickets to Pretoria, exacerbated by the peak of December expenses. Despite receiving some donations for her transport, the funds fell short due to the late initiation of the idea and the unexpected inability to work her part-time job during the crucial period when she needed it most.
“Few people donated for my transport, but it was not enough, probably because I thought of the donations idea late,” Emihle shared. “I was counting on my wages from my part-time job, unfortunately, they couldn’t have me working for them during this time that I had hoped they would need me the most. They have their own reasons.”
Despite these setbacks, Chitha managed to secure a place in the Top 16, thanks to the unwavering support from her family and friends. They not only provided financial assistance but also served as a source of motivation, constantly reminding her of her capabilities and encouraging her to pursue the crown.
“The lesson I learned is that as a pageant queen, you should always have a timeframe for the year, so that you can initiate your plans accordingly in time,” Emihle Chitha reflected. “Another lesson is to not be scared to voice out your problems by forcing yourself into a battle that is beyond your power, for the sake of your mental health.”
Expressing her remorse to those who believed in her, especially the teenagers who saw her as a role model, Emihle apologized for not meeting their expectations. She emphasized that the decision to withdraw was made after careful consideration and was ultimately in the best interest of all parties involved.
To those that see me as a role model, nothing has changed about me. I am still me, – she affirmed.
Chitha also highlighted the emotional struggle she faced in making the decision to withdraw. Despite putting tremendous effort into preparing for the crowning ceremony, practicing walks, and answering interview questions, she found herself torn between personal challenges and the expectations of those who had supported her journey.
I cried and decided to just explain to people and return the donations since I won’t utilize them anymore and apologized. To my surprise, they understood, – Emihle Chitha shared, demonstrating the resilience and strength that define her character.
As Emihle Chitha navigates through this unexpected chapter, her story becomes a testament to the unpredictable challenges that life can throw our way and the importance of acknowledging our limitations for the sake of our well-being. Despite the setbacks, her journey continues, and she remains an inspiration to many who look up to her.
