More than 500 men converged at Ngquza Hill on 19 November for the Imbizo Yamadoda. The gathering brings leaders and community members together to address rising violence against women and children. Organisers say the session marks a turning point in redefining manhood in Mpondoland.
What Happened
The programme began this morning with steady crowds arriving from across the Ngquza Hill jurisdiction.
Moreover, participants stressed that change is urgent, noting the daily reports of killings and sexual violence in local communities. The Imbizo creates space for men to reflect, confront harmful behaviour, and commit to safer homes.
Attendees said they came with one shared purpose: to “rebrand ubudoda eMampondweni.”
Official Response
Acting King Daluxolo is expected to address the gathering and guide discussions with traditional authority.
Hon. Mlibo Qhoboshiyane will also deliver a keynote message, focusing on the outcomes needed from what he called a “historic sitting.”
Leaders say they want men to take responsibility and help rebuild a culture rooted in dignity, respect, and accountability.
Community Impact
Residents believe the Imbizo could spark meaningful behavioural change among men, especially young fathers and community leaders.
Furthermore, organisers hope the platform becomes an annual programme to strengthen family safety and restore stability in villages across Mpondoland.
