The Mpondo Kingdom finalists are in preparations to represent Amapondo in the Indoni My Pride My Heritage competition which is set to take place in December 2022 in Durban ICC.
Selection of the finalists of Mpondo King and Queen took place in July 2022 at Coffee Bay, Eastern Cape.
It was a tough competition as many gathered participants came from all over the Amapondo demography. Representing the Miss Indoni Mpondo Queen is 20-year-old Smangele Kitana from Ntlozelo Bizana.
She joined Inkciyo in 2012 at the tender age of 12 years. She is a firm believer that being part of the virgin community has saved her from negative peer pressure, teenage pregnancy and being involved in drug abuse.
The Inkciyo community has built my self-esteem positively. I carry myself with pride and I hope to be a beacon of light to young girls. – said Kitana
Mr Indoni Mpondo King will be represented by 23-year-old Tobelani Ntlanyana from Nomlancu Bizana. Ntlanyana who is a poet, aspires to have his own poem book published.
He hopes that the book will be considered by the Department of Education under the language category. He joined the community in 2019, as has always looked up to his mentor who is Yamkela Mbele who is a previous participant of the Mr Indoni Mpondo King.
Mbele guided me and helped me refine my poetry talent. I look up to him as he continues to mold and steers me in the right direction. – Ntlanyana said.
The pair also visited an unveiling Indoni ceremony which took place in Thohoyandou Limpopo on the 24 September 2022. They rubbed shoulders with other 11 kingdoms from across the country.
