O.R Tambo coastal district student, Ongeziwe Sinyameni (18) returned to his home school for a welcoming celebration after his visit to the office of Eastern Cape education MEC and Premier.
It was a celebration and a parade when Mhlanga Senior Secondary School waited to welcome the district’s top achiever. The student’s mother could not hold back tears when Ongeziwe entered the gates lifting his Golden trophy and a certificate from the premier.
“I have carried this boy up with the help of the Lord. He loves school more than anything, that mde it easier for me to steer him to the right direction. All the parents must support the dreams of their children through school, and they will achieve much more.” Said Mrs. Sinyameni.
The 18-year-old student told Pondoland Times that he has received the biggest gift of his life, including the passing rate for his school.
Our premier has given me a scholarship, I want to study and become a data analyst. I think I can add more value in this department, and I believe in myself, today is just the beginning. – According to Ongeziwe.
Mrs. Ntlokwana, a history teacher has shed some light on knowing the student.
“I have taught Ongeziwe from grade ten to twelve. The boy is pure genius, as a mother and a teacher, I love him and wish him well. I am proud about him, my words to him would be, ‘fly on Eagle’ Success is sweet, but its secret is on sweating”
The district director of the OR. Tambo coastal district, Dr BB. Peyana said “This is very proud for the district, we have our big five, that’s what we call our boys. Some of them went to the national awards. This is a record breaker as we have never chevied this before.”
He further said that they are doing anything in their power to uplift the ‘forgotten schools’.
