Police efforts to clamp down on drugs and illegal weapons have paid off after two separate arrests during Operation Shanela in Cape Town.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, 09 September 2025, members of Operation Shanela searched premises in Shire Street, Mfuleni. During the search, officers confiscated 100 packets of crystal meth, four mandrax tablets, 16 half mandrax tablets, 32 quarter mandrax tablets, and an undisclosed amount of cash. A 44-year-old man was arrested on charges of dealing in drugs.
In an unrelated incident in Grassy Park, Operation Shanela officers were conducting stop and search duties in Parkwood when they apprehended a 53-year-old man. He was found in possession of seven rounds of .38 Special ammunition and is facing a charge of illegal possession of ammunition.
Both suspects are expected to appear in the Blue Downs and Wynberg Magistrates’ Courts once they have been formally charged.
