An off-duty female police Constable was attacked by two armed men outside a shop in Humansdorp on Sunday, 4 January 2026. She managed to resist the hijacking attempt until backup arrived, leading to the arrest of one suspect.
What Happened
The attempted hijacking took place around 17:20 at the corner of Du Plessis Street and Main Road. The suspects allegedly tried to force the officer into the boot of her vehicle. However, she fought back, and private security and SAPS patrol vehicles responded quickly to the scene.
One suspect, aged 18, was arrested. A replica firearm was recovered. The second suspect fled on foot and is still being sought.

Eastern Cape police confirmed that the arrested suspect is due to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court soon. He faces the following charges:
- Attempted hijacking
- Attempted kidnapping
- Assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
- Contravention of the Firearms Control Act
