The O.R. Tambo District is witnessing a major transformation as large-scale water projects reshape communities and improve lives. From the Mthatha Dam to Thornhill, new pipelines are almost complete, forming the backbone of a long-term solution to water access.

The Thornhill Water Works has boosted its capacity, now purifying an additional 20 million litres of water daily, a direct benefit to families in Mthatha and surrounding areas. Already, upgrades are reaching homes around Mthatha airport, Mthatha Central, Mqanduli, and parts of Libode.

In Ngqeleni, construction is in full swing, with contractors on the ground and visible signs of progress. Meanwhile, a brand-new Water Works facility is being built in Rosedale, set to bring clean water to thousands more households.

But the project isn’t just about infrastructure, it’s creating jobs, developing local skills, and restoring dignity to communities long affected by water shortages.

With work underway and momentum growing, the goal is clear and to ensure every home in O.R. Tambo District has safe, reliable access to water.
