O.R. Tambo District Municipality has officially welcomed newly appointed Audit Committee members and the Chairperson of the Risk Management Committee. The announcement, made during a council session on 11 November 2025, signifies another step in the municipality’s ongoing drive to uphold transparency, fiscal discipline, and ethical governance.
What Happened
The session, opened by Speaker of Council Nonkoliso Ngqongwa, stressed that good governance is not just a slogan but a discipline that ensures public institutions remain honest and trusted.
Joined by Municipal Manager Mr Basil Mase and senior officials, Councillor Ngqongwa reaffirmed that these oversight committees are not merely compliance structures. Instead, they serve as the “sentinels of trust,” “guardians of transparency,” and “architects of integrity.”
The appointments come as O.R. Tambo District Municipality continues its remarkable turnaround achieving two consecutive unqualified audit outcomes, a fully funded budget, and provincial recognition as the Most Improved Municipality in the Eastern Cape.
Official Response
“O.R. Tambo’s progress is proof that strong systems and ethical leadership can restore faith in government,” said Councillor Ngqongwa.
She added, “These committees are a promise to our people, that we will account, we will improve, and we will never compromise the trust they place in us.”
Municipal leadership echoed this commitment, stating that the newly formed teams will safeguard every rand, every plan, and every promise made to residents.
Community Impact
The strengthened oversight structures are expected to reinforce public confidence in the municipality’s governance. Residents can look forward to improved accountability, transparent financial management, and continued progress in service delivery.
As Councillor Ngqongwa stated, O.R. Tambo is “not just turning the corner” but “building a culture of excellence where accountability is the heartbeat of service.”
