On 3 November 2025, the O.R. Tambo District Municipality hosted a Leadership Tourism Awareness Campaign at Mbotyi River Resort in Lusikisiki, under Ingquza Hill Local Municipality. The campaign aimed to grow the local tourism economy and inspire leaders to champion tourism development.

The event showcased how the district’s natural beauty can create jobs, reduce poverty, and improve livelihoods. Speakers emphasized that the O.R. Tambo region holds some of the most attractive tourist sites in the Eastern Cape, with the potential to drive sustainable growth.

Mr. Mongezi Langa from the Eastern Cape Tourism Parks Agency (ECTPA) delivered a presentation on biodiversity offset. He stressed the need to protect the environment while developing tourism responsibly.
Community Impact
The campaign encouraged collaboration among municipalities, tourism operators, and communities. It reinforced the message that tourism can be a tool for both economic empowerment and environmental preservation. “Together, we must promote the beauty around us, for our people, our economy, and our future,” organisers said.
