O.R. Tambo District Municipality, led by MMC Mbhede, hosted a high-level bilateral engagement with the Department of Land Reform and Rural Development on 25 November. The meeting took place to strengthen cooperation, align development plans, and secure support for key district projects.
What Happened
The O.R. Tambo District Municipality convened a strategic session with the Department of Land Reform and Rural Development. The goal was to align ORTDM’s ongoing rural development projects with the Department’s long-term priorities. Stakeholders also used the platform to present funding needs and highlight programmes that require national backing.
Representatives from Rural Economic Development and Planning, the Ntinga O.R. Tambo Development Agency, and senior officials from the Department attended the engagement.
Official Response
MMC Mbhede emphasised that the meeting represented a crucial step toward long-term developmental stability.
“We cannot deliver sustainable growth without strong partnerships. Today’s engagement shows our shared commitment to transforming rural economies,” Mbhede said.
The Department’s delegation welcomed the collaboration, noting that aligning strategies would help unlock more resources and improve project reach.
Community Impact
Officials said a joint framework would help accelerate service delivery, support rural enterprises, and improve planning across villages. The partnership aims to ensure that future projects are fully funded, better coordinated, and impactful in the communities that need them most.
A representative from Ntinga O.R. Tambo Development Agency added, “Working together strengthens every project. Our communities benefit when government institutions move in one direction.”
